Jeeez, it’s a busy summer….weve been doing allsorts over the last few months! In May we were pulled in to paint some sets for a Bollywood film shot in Birmingham and Kidderminster. The photo above was part of a market area for a night shoot, and afterwards had to shoot off to Coventry Cathedral to decorate more stuff. It’s great fun to spray paint to a deadline with all the drama of a busy set!
The BBC are getting closer to moving into their new Birmingham home, the Tea Works in Digbeth. The old factory has had the makeover of all makeovers to house studios, offices and a base for radio and TV. Some of the surrounding walls needed our attention, and our Not for Profit company High-Vis CIC was asked to get local artists to produce pieces that would go on the hoardings at the front of the building. This was hard work because of how hot it was over the 2 weeks we were given to complete the whole lot. The 50m mural turned out beautifully, check out the High-Vis Festival Instagram account to see.
Through July and August we did a load of sessions with foreign students from Italy, Spain, Japan and Germany. They were visiting London, Bath and Nottingham. Short and fun workshops showing how fun graffiti art can be is what ELAC wanted and we delivered, with over 120 students a day getting involved, designing and colouring their own street names to take home.
The biggest project we were involved with was the Birmingham Phoenix team, based in the famous Edgbaston Cricket Ground. Their brief was to give their kit and walls a revamp, and to paint live graffiti at The Hundreds games in August. Jude Bellingham is a share holder of the club and was one of the portraits we designed in front of the massive crowds.
Other bits we did include the MASTERCHEF entrance set, Shokupan fast food restaurant in Bradford…dropping a splash of colour at Moseley Jazz, Funk and Soul festival, whole load of workshops and a massive community mural in Sparkbrook.
And check out artist Nathan NYCES Murdoch who’s on Dragons Den tonight. It was 12 years ago when I was on Dragon’s Den… I’ve never done anything as scary as that in my life!!! I hope it’s not as bad for Nathan, and he does alright out of it, fair play to him!
